Sunday 5 February is British Yorkshire Pudding Day, celebrating this doughy stalwart of every roast dinner plate – not just to be served with roast beef, in our opinion. Whatever your Sunday favourite, discover which of our award-winning English Wines are best served alongside these different types of roast dinners…
Rosé with Lamb
Well known as an accompaniment to seafood dishes, we think rosé also makes a perfect match for roast lamb.
A delightful English Rosé Wine made from 100% pinot noir, our balanced Pinot Noir Rosé is best served lightly chilled. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve the delicate fruit characters, this rosé is bursting with sweet, red summer berries, a twist of orange and a fresh, lingering finish. Its refreshing acidity cuts through the fattiness of lamb.
Pinot Noir with Beef
Perfect with pork, game dishes and of course beef bourguignon, Pinot Noir is a brilliant choice to pair with roast beef.
Made from the best fruit available in the UK and aged in 30% new oak, our unique Lyme Bay Winery Pinot Noir 2020 English Red Wine combines notes of red fruit with smoky, vanilla oak and mild tobacco overtones, alongside cherry, plum, blackcurrant, strawberry and toasty oak for a rich but balanced palate and a mouth-watering finish that lingers and evolves.
New this year we are also proud to present two Pinot Noir choices from our single vineyard range.
Our Martin’s Lane Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is made from Spätburgunder still wine Fr1801 and F105(s) clones, resulting in a nose of ripe cherry, dark chocolate and cedar, and a palate dominated by dark fruit underpinned by toasty vanilla and subtle spice.
Alternatively, our rich, refined and complex Crow’s Lane Vineyard Pinot Noir uses the same Spätburgunder still wine clones to give a deep palate of damsons, mulberry, blackcurrant and raspberry, underpinned by toasty vanilla and spice, with a slightly different aroma of black cherry, blackcurrant and smoke
Chardonnay with Chicken
A popular pairing with creamy or cheese sauce dishes, Chardonnay is also a great choice for chicken dishes.
Our Award Winning Lyme Bay Winery 2021 Vintage Chardonnay is an elegant English Dry White Wine combining notes of creamy apples and stone fruit with subtle creaminess of oak. Baked apple and vibrant citrus lead, a creamy finish with just a hint of spice. A crisp and complex framework makes this wine an excellent match with food.
From our Single Vineyard range, our beautiful pale gold Martin’s Lane Estate English Chardonnay is a true classic focussing on richness and body, with red apple and lemon citrus, and a long buttery and almond finish.
Bacchus with Fish
Fans of fish and seafood can’t go wrong with a bottle of our New Vintage Lyme Bay Winery Bacchus 2022 – an aromatic, medium-dry white English Wine made from 100% Bacchus grapes. Best served lightly chilled, this fresh and zesty wine is intensely aromatic with tropicality, minerality and characteristic English hedgerow notes..
The bounty of the ocean also pairs well with English Sparkling Wines, and our particular favourite choices are our Lyme Bay Classic Cuvée – a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that holds its own just as well with fish and shellfish as it does with a chunky crab sandwich – and our 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs 2016, whose lighter style uplifts more delicate fish such as lemon sole.
Brut Reserve Sparkling with Vegetarian and Vegan dishes
Brut Reserve Sparkling is a great choice to serve alongside all kinds of vegetarian and vegan food because it has enough acidity to hold its own against rich robust dishes, but is still refreshing for lighter menu choices.
Clean, vibrant and bursting with lemon, green apples and the aroma of freshly cut grass, our balanced English Brut Reserve sparkling wine gives way to citrus and toast flavours.
