The weather’s holding, school is almost out and everyone is starting to feel a bit more summer-holidayish. Which is all well and good, but if you have to go to one more barbecue or summer drinks party where the hosts are serving up unimaginative jugs of this and the same old pitchers of that, you could be more likely to succumb to boredom than sunstroke.
Never fear! We have the answer. After hours of intensive testing (it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it) we have come up with five simple cocktails that combine some of our summeriest Fruit Wines with a mixer, ice and a slice to make delicious long drinks.
ELDERFLOWER WINE COLLINS
Mix 1 part Elderflower Wine with 3 parts tonic for a light, crisp and beautifully refreshing long drink with a floral-citrus kick. Serve over ice with a sprig of mint.
STRAWBERRY WINE DAIQUIRI
Mix 1 part Strawberry Wine with 3 parts cloudy lemonade for a stunning long drink with a citrus tang and mouth-watering notes of wild strawberries. Serve over ice with a wedge of lime.
RASPBERRY WINE AND APPLE SPRITZ
Mix 1 part Raspberry Wine with 3 parts apple juice for a lively long drink with zesty apple notes and a ripe berry finish. Serve over ice with a slice of chilled apple.
CHERRY WINE KALIMOTXO
Mix 1 part Cherry Wine with 3 parts cola for a sweet yet refreshing long drink with a burst of black cherry, a hint of almond and a smooth finish. Serve over ice with a wedge of lime.
PEACH WINE BELLINI
Mix 1 part Peach Wine with 3 parts lemonade for a delicious summer long drink with soft ripe fruit flavours. Serve over ice with a slice of fresh peach.
