Fathers – it’s fair to say we wouldn’t be here without them. But boy, can they be hard to buy gifts for. If you’re looking for the perfect present for your papa this Father’s Day on 21 June then we’ve got some easy-drinking suggestions that will make the task a no-brainer.
Raise a toast with a tot of rum
If your dad has a rebellious streak and a taste for far-flung adventure then our spiced Lugger Rum is just the ticket.
Named after the fishing boats that notorious local smuggler Jack Rattenbury used to smuggle contraband into Lyme Bay in the 18th Century, we craft our Lugger Rum from aged Caribbean rum in bourbon-charred oak barrels right here in Devon, before spicing it with nutmeg, orange peel, cloves and vanilla.
For those who prefer their rum with a mixer, the Air Mail rum cocktail is a classy glass to try. Mix two shots of Lyme Bay Lugger Rum with a splash of lime juice, a teaspoon of honey and some crushed ice in a tall glass. Stir well and top up with Lyme Bay Brut Reserve English Sparkling Wine for a refreshing take on a tropical classic.
Keep him sweet with mead
Mead is one of the oldest known alcoholic drinks, and our award-winning range is fermented, blended, and aged on-site using secret blends of honey to create the rich, floral, and pungent characteristics for which mead is famed.
But just because it’s historic, doesn’t mean it’s stuffy and old-fashioned. The perfect choice for a long drink on lazy summer days, our Lyme Bay Rhubarb Mead showcases the tangy pairing of honey and rhubarb and is delicious served chilled or on the rocks. For something lighter, try our Lyme Bay Garden Mead with mint served long, over ice, and topped up with lemonade.
And if your dad is already mad for mead, or you really want to keep him sweet, why not splash out on a traditional 50cl flagon bottle of our Traditional Mead which is perfect for (socially distanced) parties and one of our best-selling meads of all time.
Change it up with cider
Celebrating and crafting West Country cider is where it all started for us here at Lyme Bay Winery Drinks, using the pressed juice of locally grown traditional cider varieties such as Dabinett, Kingston Black and Yarlington Mill.
